PAWS Asks Families To Give Shelter Pets A Home For The Holidays

An event through PAWS Tinley Park allows people to foster a dog or cat for the week of Christmas with all supplies provided.

TINLEY PARK, IL — A program through PAWS Tinley Park is offering families all the excitement of waking up to a pup under the tree with the Home for the Pawlidays event which places adoptable pets into foster homes for the week of Christmas.

The no-kill shelter will provide participating people with a dog or cat who matches their lifestyle and all the supplies to take care of them from Dec. 22 - 27, according to a social media post from the organization.

Food, a cage, bowls, toys and medicine will all be given to those who are placed with an animal.

Not only does the visit provide the dog or cat some time away from the stressful shelter environment, but it also lessens the workload for shelter workers and volunteers during the holiday season.

Even if a foster home ultimately decides not to keep the pet after the Pawliday is over, the animal still benefits from having a person to fill out an application with testimonials on the animals' behavior and habits.

Animals are paired with their temporary home on a first-come basis after filling out an application to match each pet with an environmental that could suit their needs. Owners who already have a pet can apply but must bring their animal into the shelter for a meet and greet to ensure the shelter animal will be safe.

Those interested in applying for the Home for the Pawlidays project can find the application and more information on PAWS Tinley Park's website.
