TINLEY PARK, IL — Pete's Fresh Market is hiring for its Tinley Park location ahead of its opening, and a job fair has been set for July 15.

Though an exact opening date is not yet set, the store's management is hiring for all positions, its announcement reads.

The fair will be held Tuesday, July 15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the store, 16280 S. Harlem Ave. The company touts competitive salaries, good benefits, full-time hours, and career growth opportunities.

Started in the early 1970s as "a small, full-service produce stand on the south side of Chicago," the grocer chain remains a family-owned business with stores featuring fresh produce, full-service kitchens, bakery, deli, and in-house butchers. Pete's currently has 19 stores in the Chicagoland area with four listed as coming soon, the Tinley Park location among them.

The Tinley location's most recent tentative opening date was set for spring 2025, and that was also pushed back from earlier estimates. The company said in 2020 that it would be open by 2022. As that date came and went, the company cited issues with supply chains, utilities, and changes to Illinois law regarding refrigerants and electrical requirements. In spring 2024, the company told officials they expected to open by spring 2025. Pete's also has converted the shuttered Kmart retail store there into a warehouse.

In Orland Park, shoppers are enjoying their new Pete's store—the chain's 19th—which opened in February 2025. That location took approximately five years to debut, but it had moved into an existing building that was formerly an Art Van Furniture store (and a Dominick's before that).

In New Lenox, construction on a store there picked back up in February after a delay related to steel supplies. The chain first announced its intention to open in New Lenox in 2017; its projected opening is now set for spring 2026.

The chain opens one store at a time, it says on its website. Tinley Park is listed as its 20th store, presumably the next to open.

The company shares all location-specific opening date information and updates on its Facebook page.
