SUNDAY, JUNE 3

2 Break Into Howe Center

Police said two men stole framed pictures from an abandoned building on the grounds over the weekend after they were told by a friend that it was abandoned. Thomas N. Hawyer, 21, of the 500 block of Misty Creek Drive in New Lenox and Austin R. O'Conner, 20, of the 25300 block of Maxwell Street in Manhattan were each issued one local ordinance citation for petty theft, according to the police report. Police said they were caught around 3:30 p.m. leaving Howe Center, 7400 W. 183rd St., , with eight framed pictures.

Purses Snagged at Amphitheater

Police said that three women reported their purses stolen while attending Drake concerts at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheater in . All three of the bags were nabbed between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. May 2. The thefts weren't reported until the next day.

THURSDAY, MAY 24

Bicycles Damaged

Police said someone damaged three bicycles while they were parked at the Oak Park Avenue Metra Station in downtown Tinley Park between 2:45 p.m. Wednesday and midnight May 24. At least one of the bikes was inoperable, officers said.

TUESDAY, MAY 22

Man Grabs Weed Wacker from Garage

A resident of Bayfield Drive in called the cops around 8:30 p.m. when he realized a weed wacker was missing from his garage. The victim said video surveillance on his house shows a man exiting a vehicle, stealing the weed wacker and driving away, according to the report. The machine was worth about $275.

SUNDAY, MAY 20

Suspected Heroin User Pockets Jewelry

Police were called to Super Target on 191st Street in  around 3:25 p.m. for a report of a woman who left the store without paying for about $235 worth of jewelry. Loss prevention staff detained Andrea L. Muszynski, 19, of the 19300 block of Edgebrook Lane.

They said she was seen by security taking 12 pieces of jewelry from the store and walking out the door. The jewelry was priced at a total of $235.88, police said. The activity is also on video surveillance, the report said. In searching Muszynski, police said they found a hypodermic syringe, a shoe lace and a metal lid with burn marks on it.

"The items are consistent with the use of heroin," they said. She was charged with one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of retail theft.

FRIDAY, MAY 18

Driving Under the Influence

Police said they pulled over a driver around 10:25 p.m. in the 18600 block of 80th Avenue in  after they reportedly saw him swerving across lane lines and into oncoming traffic.

When they approached Hernando E. Herrera, 54, of the 7700 block of West 165th Street in Tinley Park, they said his eyes were bloodshot and he smelled like alcohol. He reportedly admitted to drinking two to three beers while at a bonfire, the report said.

He then failed field sobriety tests, according to police. He was charged with operating an uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane use, driving under the influence and driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08.
