Police Blotter: Grand Theft Auto; Trespasser Makes Mess, Steals Nothing
Tinley Park police reports, Sept. 18-19.

MONDAY, SEPT. 19
Signs Stolen from Walker Intermediate
said that sometime between 5 p.m. Sept. 16 and noon on Sept. 19, someone jacked two signs from the southwest corner of the grounds of Walker Intermediate School, 19900 S. 80th Ave., . Both signs read, "No parking between signs." One was located south of the school in a ditch.
Grand Theft Auto
A 70-year-old Orland Hills woman called the cops to report that sometime between 2 p.m. Sept. 18 and 7 a.m. Sept. 19, someone stole her vehicle from a local auto center.

The 1998 Jeep Cherokee was parked in a handicapped space in front of the service center doors at Herman's Auto Center, 7250 Duvan Drive in Tinley. "(The victim) put the vehicle key into the service center building via a mail slot in the front door," the report said. "… (She) called the service center at approximately (noon) the following day to check on her vehicle's status. The service center informed her that they did not have her vehicle, and that it was not in their parking lot."
Employees said they don't believe anyone was fishing for dropped off keys in the mail slot because doing so would set off the building's alarm sensors. The woman had a small portable breathing system, an oxygen tube and two personal checks inside the vehicle at the time of the theft. Its license plate number is EXY837, according to the report.

Vehicle Break-in
A 32-year-old man, whose Pontiac Grand Prix was parked at the Holiday Inn, 18501 Convention Center Drive, Tinley Park, said that between 12:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., someone shattered the driver's side window of his car. "It appears that the offender used a pry tool to shatter out the door glass," the report said. The man's GPS device, which was attached to the rear view mirror, was stolen.
Liquor Thief
Employees at Super Kmart, 16300 Harlem Ave., Tinley Park, said that shortly before 4 p.m., a young man removed two bottles of liquor from a shelf and exited the store without paying for them. He got into a dark colored car, possibly a Chrysler Sebring, with no front or rear plates, a missing wheel cover and a rusty front fender.

Trespasser Makes Mess, Steals Nothing
A man living in the 16900 block of South Richards Drive in Tinley Park, called the cops shortly after midnight to report that it appeared someone had been in his residence while he was gone between 9 p.m. Sept. 17 and midnight Sept. 18. A 4-foot tall stereo speaker was lying on its side, clothes were strewn about a bedroom and kitchen tables were moved in the dining area. The resident said he believed the culprit may be a friend of someone else who lives in the home, but refused to sign complaints.
