Police: Man Tries Cashing Fraudulent Check, Says it Was Payment for Pot
Police charged an out-of-towner with forgery about one week ago after he allegedly told them he got a check from a woman named "Pooh" for marijuana.

A Country Club Hills man was arrested last weekend after reportedly trying to cash a check that he said was written to him in exchange for marijuana.
Tyris O. Cheers, 38, of the 4300 block of Mayfair Court in Country Club Hills, was charged Saturday, Nov. 26 with one count of forgery.
An employee at Citibank, 17401 S. Oak Park Ave., called around 10 a.m. that day. It was then that the teller said Cheers came in and tried to cash a check for $200 against an out-of-town resident's account.

The cashier said the woman's signature on file at the bank didn't match the one on the check. She contacted her supervisor, who called the victim. The account holder said her checkbook had recently been stolen and that she didn't issue the particular check.
"I spoke to Tyris at the Citibank teller window," the officer wrote in the report. "He said that he sells marijuana and a woman named 'Pooh' gave him the check in exchange for marijuana."

The victim said her purse was stolen on Nov. 25 in Matteson. She never issued the check Cheers was trying to cash and doesn't smoke pot, she said.
