Tinley Man, 28, Fatally Struck By Car While Changing Tire On I-55: ISP

The accident happened Sunday evening on I-55 Southbound near Cicero Avenue.

TINLEY PARK, IL — A 28-year-old Tinley Park man died Sunday night after being struck by a car while changing a tire on I-55.

Nikolas Hutto was one of two struck on the right shoulder of the Stevenson Expressway southbound near Cicero Avenue Sunday evening. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified Hutto Monday.

Just before 7 p.m. Sunday, Hutto and another person were hit by a pick-up truck that left the roadway and drove onto the shoulder, then hitting the car and two of the three people outside changing the car's tire on the passenger side, Illinois State Police said.

One pedestrian, later identified as Hutto, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead at 7:12 p.m. Another pedestrian, along with the driver of the pick-up truck, were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Illinois State Police are investigating. No charges have been filed yet.
