TINLEY PARK, IL — Tinley Park Mayor Jacob Vandenberg paused an otherwise mundane board of trustee business meeting Tuesday night for a moment of silence to honor the victims of the weekend's mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas.

After the Pledge of Allegiance and before regular began, Vandenberg asked colleagues and the audience to remain standing for the moment of silence or prayer.

"Over the weekend, this country experienced two tragic massacres," he said. "I think that it's our duty and responsibility as American Citizens to recognize the men and women and children who were lost over the weekend, including the survivors."
