Woman's Purse Stolen By Person In Car That Almost Hit Her: TPPD

TINLEY PARK, IL — A woman had her purse stolen from her hands in front of Brookside Marketplace Monday after police said she made a comment to a person in a car that almost hit her.

The theft took place Monday at 11:30 a.m. According to officials, a woman was walking into Michaels at 7310 191st Street when a white SUV pulled up close to her, almost hitting the woman.

"She made a comment to them that they almost hit her and sort of joked with them about it," said Tinley Park Police Chief Matt Walsh.

One of the men inside the car then got out, went towards her and grabbed her purse from her hands before hopping back in the car and driving off. Police said there were about three people inside the vehicle which was missing its license plates.

The woman was uninjured during the incident, which Walsh said was the first of its kind in that area. While Walsh said the woman couldn't have prevented the theft, he warned residents to always be on the lookout.

"You have to be aware of your surroundings," he said. "Keep your head on a swivel."

Police said the SUV was last seen fleeing towards 191st Street.
