TINLEY PARK, IL — Commuters in Tinley Park will see a change in payment method by the spring, with officials making the switch to electronic parking meters, the Village said Friday. The shift will also come with an increase in parking fees, from $1.50 to $2, starting in the spring.

The Village has contracted with Total Parking Solutions to transition from traditional honor-box pay stations to electronic parking meters at the Oak Park Avenue and 80th Avenue train station lots, the Village said in a release. The Village will pay approximately $150,000 for the upgrade, Village Manager Pat Carr said.

The changeover is expected to be completed by the spring of 2024 and is described as "a pivotal step toward enhanced efficiency and ease-of-use for residents and visitors."

"This move is really driven by the Village’s commitment to maximizing efficiency and convenience for everyone," Tinley Park Village Manager Pat Carr said. "The transition will significantly streamline the parking experience, making it simpler and more user-friendly."

The new meters will accept various payment methods such as coins, credit cards or mobile apps, offering unparalleled convenience to all parkers. The new electronic meters also will require less maintenance, minimizing downtime and ensuring reliability. Real-time data tracking also will allow for better management of parking spaces and resources, officials said.
