TINLEY PARK, IL — Tinley Park Police Chief Matt Walsh resigned Sept. 15, Village Manager Pat Carr confirmed to Patch Tuesday.

Walsh submitted his resignation, effective Sept. 30, Carr told Patch.

Walsh was appointed chief in 2018, stepping into the role after the departure of Steve Neubauer. His law enforcement career has now spanned 30 years. He graduated from the FBI Academy in Quanitco, Virginia, and from the Northwestern University's School of Police of Staff and Command.

Before he stepped into the chief role, Walsh had been a lieutenant and watch commander with the Cook County sheriff's police, with a focus on community policing.

Village officials said next week they will work to fill the role with an interim chief, while they determine next steps for a permanent replacement.
