Tinley Park Police Warn Of Numerous Car Break-Ins, Attempts

Tinley Park police reminded residents to lock their car doors after a string of car break-ins this week.

TINLEY PARK, IL — Tinley Park police on Wednesday urged residents to lock their car doors after a rash of early morning break-ins this week.

The break-ins and attempted break-ins occurred in the 7800 block of Park Central Drive, 7600 block of West 173rd Place, 17300 block of Overhill Avenue, 7500 block of 173rd Street, and 7900 block of Marquette Drive.

Police said thieves pull on random door handles until they find a vehicle that is unlocked, and then steal items from inside the car.

Police urge residents to protect their belongings by following these safety tips:

  • Lock all doors and windows.
  • Remove all items from inside the vehicle.
  • Park in well-lit, well-traveled areas or a garage if you have one.
  • When parking in a garage, leave your garage door closed and locked.
  • Set the car alarm or anti-theft device.
  • Never confront a criminal or suspicious person. Instead, call 911 and let the police handle it
