Tinley Park Prepares For 2022 Irish Parade Along Oak Park Avenue

TINLEY PARK, IL — The village's annual Irish Parade will take place Sunday, March 6 after a year of cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, officials said.

The parade will kick off along Oak Park Avenue at 1 p.m. Sunday. Along the route, Tinley Park restaurants and vendors will be available for paradegoers to purchase from, including some traditional Irish food.

Floats from local veteran clubs, breweries, schools and businesses will participate in the parade for a total of 72 groups making the trek along Oak Park Avenue. Kevin Byrne, Consulate General of Ireland Chicago, will serve as the parade's Grand Marshal.

While village officials acknowledged some bars, breweries and restaurants may offer St. Patrick's Day deals for parade attendees, a representative from Tinley Park police reminded residents no open containers of alcohol will be permitted along the parade route.

"The weather looks terrific for a parade," said Mayor Mike Glotz in a statement. "We are delighted to welcome our residents out on Oak Park Avenue; our businesses will be thriving, and we will have tons of happy faces out on the street and ready to celebrate!"

Temperatures Sunday afternoon are predicted to be around 50 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
