Tinley Police Warn Residents Of Jury Duty Phone Scams

Tinley Park police are warning residents that calls they may receive about warrants for their arrests for missing jury duty are scams.

TINLEY PARK, IL — Tinley Park police are warning residents that they are not calling them about warrants for their arrests and any calls they receive about that are scams.

Someone is calling elderly Tinley Park residents using an actual sergeant's name and telling them that they missed jury duty so police have issued warrants for their arrest. They instruct the person to send money using Paypal to satisfy the bond on the warrant. In at least one case, the caller asked for $2,000.

In other calls, the residents are instructed to report to the Tinley Park Police Department to sign an affidavit explaining the reason for the absence and requesting that the warrant be quashed.

The calls are scams, Tinley police said.

Police added that they do not seek warrants for people who have missed jury duty.They also do not ask for money to be paid by Paypal, Western Union or other services.

They're also reminding citizens not to provide personal or identifying information to anyone over the telephone, including your name, date of birth, Social Security number or address.
