Top 15 Cities in Illinois with the Highest Sales Tax
Where in Illinois are residents paying the most in sales taxes?

If you’re shopping on a tight budget, a high sales tax can be a tough pill to swallow -- especially if you live in one of these 15 Illinois cities with the highest sales taxes in the state.
Illinois has a state sales tax of 6.25 percent on most of the goods sold in the state, but cities and counties can add their own taxes, pushing sales tax rates as high as 10 percent. Not all of them do; almost 400 municipalities only pay the state sales tax rate.
The average Illinoisan will pay around 7.13 percent total when they head out to the store, but according to the Illinois Department of Revenue and taxrates.com, residents in these 15 cities may be looking at a much bigger bill.
