TINLEY PARK, IL — United Way of Metro Chicago holds its annual food drive, awards lunch and awareness event Thursday that focuses on food insecurity in the south/southwest suburbs—the region with the fastest-growing population of people living at or below the poverty line.

The event will be held at the Tinley Park Convention Center in Tinley Park.

Two Key Clubs from Bremen District 228 High School and local Kiwanis will be attending to help, as well.

Last year, United Way collected more than 128,000 pounds of food with a similar event to help ease summer food insecurity and to restock food pantries.

Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton is scheduled to be the keynote speaker and Fox32 anchor Dawn Hasbrouck will emcee the luncheon.

To help, people can make a financial gift, become a sponsor, or donate food or household goods.
