WalletHub Ranks Illinois Among Worst States to be a Taxpayer

New study shows it stinks to be a taxpayer in Illinois, but you probably already knew that.

A new WalletHub study has ranked the best and worst states to be a taxpayer.

In order to rank all 50 states and the District of Columbia, the study looked at four types of taxation: property taxes, vehicle property taxes, income taxes, and sales and excise taxes.

WalletHub then combined these tax categories to determine the effective total state and local tax rate in each state, which was calculated as a percentage of the national median household income of $53,889.
