Witnesses, Engineer: Man Jumped in Front of Metra Train
Onlookers say a young Tinley Park man intentionally stepped in front of the commuter train that killed him during Tuesday's evening rush.
Eye witnesses to a fatal train incident Tuesday say the 23-year-old man who died jumped in front of the outbound Metra as it was passing through downtown Tinley Park.
"He wasn't sitting on the side where you catch the train," one witness said, in a Chicago Tribune report. "It doesn't appear he was running to catch the train. It does appear intentional."
Metra officials say the man, who was a Tinley Park resident, was sitting on a bench at the Oak Park Avenue station shortly after 5 p.m. The train was not scheduled to make a stop there.

"Two witnesses and the train engineer said they saw the man leave the bench, walk down the platform on the opposite side, then jump in front of the train," says the Chicago Tribune story.
He was struck by Rock Island District Metra train No. 413. Emergency responders were called to the scene at 5:25 p.m., where investigators remained for several hours.
