Woman Returning From Hospital Robbed At Gunpoint In Tinley Park

Tinley Park Police Chief Matthew Walsh told Patch the two offenders took the woman's purse and phone before leaving her unharmed.

TINLEY PARK, IL — A woman was robbed at gunpoint while returning home from the hospital early Wednesday morning, according to Tinley Park Police Chief Matthew Walsh.

Around 1:20 a.m. in the 18500 block of Pine Lake Drive, a woman was driving home from the hospital with her mother when she noticed a car behind her. When she parked her car at her senior living complex, a man, possibly a teenager or in his early 20s, approached her with a gun, according to Walsh. The woman frantically tried to reverse out of the driveway, but the door unlocked, and that's when the man opened the door, took her cellphone and purse, leaving quickly, Walsh said.

The woman, unharmed, told police a second man was at the scene, possibly standing as a lookout. Both appeared to be teenagers. It is unclear if the men ran off on foot or drove away from the scene. Walsh said the woman does not have cameras on site, but police are investigating the incident, and looking for footage from neighbors.

"We haven't had anything like this, as far as a random act," Walsh said. "This here, I think, was an opportunity. These two men followed a car, and committed an armed robbery."

A release from the village of Tinley Park said police are currently reviewing footage, and an investigation is underway.
