Former Vernon Hills Man Convicted of Involuntary Manslaughter

Jury rules Ronald Stolberg did not intend to murder his wife.

Ronald Stolberg, the former Vernon Hills man who was charged with the first-degree murder of his wife for allegedly asphyxiating her in June 2011 because she interrupted his sleep, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter on May 28, reported the Lake County News-Sun.

The prosecution could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Stolberg, 49, intended to cause the death of his wife, Rachel, according to the Daily Herald.

Stolberg and his wife had gotten into a physical struggle on June 8, 2011, after she poked him awake several times.

Stolberg is due back in court July 17.

The family of Rachel Stolberg has filed a wrongful death suit against Ronald Stolberg seeking damages of more than $150,000.
