Residents can get a great, and inexpensive, haircut from the students at the Empire Beauty School in Vernon Hills, which also gives free cuts to police, fire and miitary personnel, according to the Vernon Hills Review.

Fees are typically one-third that of a regular salon, but there's no loss of quality, Empire told the Review. However, you might spend a bit more time in their students' chairs because they are still in training.
