Students Take a Stand Against Bullying
Middle-schoolers participated in a "black out bullying" program.

Hawthorn Middle School South students took a stand to βBlack Out BullyingβΒ April 26, when they dressed inΒ dark shirts and headed to the parking lot, where they spelled out HMS (for Hawthorn Middle South) in an effort to visually stand up against bullying.
Throughout the year, the school has been working to increase studentsβ sense of belonging and connection to their school and community through advisory program activities and special learning and discussion opportunities. The goal of the βBlack Outβ Day was to empower students to take a stand when they see bullying occur.
