'The Best Kept Secret' in Vernon Hills

Vernon Hills officials want to let you in on a secret or two.

There are some great community events in town this summer, and they want to make sure you’re aware of them.

The weekly summer concert series at the Arbortheater kicked off June 13 to a small but enthusiastic crowd, Trustee Jim Schultz said.

β€œThis is the best kept secret that this town is keeping,” said Schultz, who was in the audience. β€œThey got a rousing ovation, but there were just a few of us there.”

Concerts will be held from 7-9 p.m. on most Thursdays through Aug. 1 at Arbortheater, 50 Memorial Drive. If it rains, the concerts will move to the Sullivan Center. Visit the village’s website for a complete list of upcoming shows. The concerts are also posted in the events section of Vernon Hills Patch.Β Β

The village is also looking for more shoppers and vendors for its weekly French Market, held each Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Metra parking lot on Route 45.

Initial feedback has been positive, officials have said, but they want to raise community awareness about the event and also increase its scope.

β€œWe still have to work on getting vendors. It’s a slow process,” Village Manager Mike Allison said.Β

The market, which offers both food and non-food products, continues through Oct. 19.
