Trial for Man Who Attempted Suicide by Cop Delayed
Howard Lazarus could avoid trial and get treatment if he is accepted into a mental health court.

The trial of Howard Lazarus, the Mundelein manΒ who tried to commit suicide at the hands of Vernon Hills Police, is expected to be delayed until Aug. 19 to allow more time to determine if he will be accepted into a mental health court, reported the Daily Herald.
Lazarus, who is in jail on $100,000 bond, has plead not guilty to the charge ofΒ felonyΒ aggravated assault, reported Patch.Β LazarusΒ was shot byΒ Vernon Hills PoliceΒ when he entered the station on April 3Β to report a traffic accident then drew what appeared to be a gun on an officer.
A hand-written note found in Lazarus' pocket stated in part, βI apologize for placing your officers in this position. I am dying from cancer and couldnβt do the deed myself," reported Patch.
