The Vernon Hills High School wind ensemble was recognized June 4 for its success at the SuperState Concert Band Festival, where it won its divisionβs championship for the third consecutive year. Β
Members of the band were honored by the Village of Vernon Hills which issued a proclamation congratulating them on their May performance at the University of Illinois, which resulted in the bandβs Honor Band designation. Β
βThe Illinois SuperState Concert Band Festival invites only the finest wind band programs in the state of Illinois based on competitive application. Every band invited is a winner and represents the very finest the state has to offer. Each year, an honor band is selected from these fantastic performances,β reads the SuperState website. Β
Only 38 Illinois bands were chosen to participate in the festival, and four of them earned Honor Band status. Β
As an Honor Band, Vernon Hills will be featured in an honor concert at next yearβs festival. The band is directed by Randy Sundell. Β
Libertyville High School, which falls into a different high school division, was also named an Honor Band this year. Β Β Β Β Β Β
