Vernon Hills High School Senior Named to IHSA All-State Academic Team

Congratulations to VHHS senior Allison Tran for being named to the IHSA All-State Academic Team, an honor bestowed upon just 26 students from across Illinois.

Vernon Hills High School senior Allison Tran has been named a member of the 2012-13 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) All-State Academic Team. She is only the fourth VHHS student to achieve this top honor in the school's 12-year history.

The team includes 26 high school students from across the state. To be nominated, a student must have earned at least a 3.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), participated in two IHSA sports or activities in the past two years and demonstrated outstanding citizenship, according to the IHSA.

Tran has been a member of the VHHS gymnastics team for three years and has participated in track and field for four years. In both sports she has qualified to compete at the state level for multiple years, according to her school.

Tran was also a member of the VHHS Voices in Prevention (VIP) group for two years.

As a junior, Tran participated in a French Foreign Exchange program. This year, she represents VHHS students as the school's student representative on the District 128 Board of Education.

Allison has received numerous honors for her achievements including being named recipient of the 2013 Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award, and being named a 2013 Illinois State Scholar and 2012 AP Scholar. She was named Daily Herald Lake County Athlete of the Year (2013) and was chosen for the Daily Herald Leadership Team (2012-13).

“This is a tremendous honor and I hope every student who was nominated takes a great deal of pride in all that they have accomplished,” said IHSA Executive Director Marty Hickman. “These students are the embodiment of what it means to take advantage of the entire high school experience. I am thankful to Caterpillar for providing the All-State Academic Team platform to honor and congratulate them.”

Tran and her fellow honorees will be recognized by the IHSA at a banquet in Bloomington on April 15.
