Vernon Hills Police Investigate Armed Robbery
Police say the robbery "was not a random event" and that there's no need for other residents to be concerned.

Vernon Hills police are investigating a report of an armed robbery Monday night on the 200 block of Augusta Drive.
Cmdr. Patrick Zimmerman said police received a call from a resident at about 9:30 p.m. April 1. The resident reported that three men armed with guns had entered the home and were in the residence for a short time before fleeing.Â
"They called police after they felt the intruders had left," Zimmerman said.

No one was injured during the robbery, he said. Citing the ongoing investigation, he declined to say Tuesday morning whether anything was stolen from the home or to provide descriptions of the offenders.
It is not known whether the residents knew the offenders, Zimmerman said, but police believe the intruders were looking for specific contents of the house.

"This family was specifically targeted. There's no need for other residents to be concerned. This was not a random event," Zimmerman said.
Similar home invasions have occurred in the Chicagoland area, he said, although not in Vernon Hills.
