Vernon Hills Resident Earns Honors Scholarship

Bridget Muñoz, a junior majoring in rehabilitation services at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, is the recipient of a 2013 Albert and Leyla Somit University Honors Scholarship.

Muñoz is the daughter of Meghan and Patrick Muñoz of Vernon Hills.

The $1,000 scholarship is for continuing University Honors Program students who excel academically, show leadership and participate in community service-related activities. The scholarship is for the 2013 fall semester. Muñoz is one of five SIU Carbondale students to receive the award this year.

“These individuals are recognized as achievers among achievers,” said Lori Merrill-Fink, University Honors Program director.

The scholarship honors former SIU President Albert Somit, who served SIU Carbondale in that position from 1980 to 1987.
