• Firefighters rescue husky who fell through ice near St. Charles (shawlocal.com) — Residents in Wayne are served by the Fox River and Countryside Fire/Rescue District whose crews just pulled a 100‑pound husky from an icy retention pond near St. Charles Township. Firefighters in cold‑water suits rescued the dog, rushed him to an Elgin animal hospital with dangerously low body temperature, and are now working with veterinarians and deputies to locate his owner.
