WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — A UPS semi-tractor trailer overturned on I-294 in Western Springs early Tuesday morning in an accident that killed the driver. The truck was near Ogden Avenue and the 47th Street bridge when the driver struck the median wall and the trailers rolled into oncoming lanes at about 2:30 a.m.

Two lanes in both directions were blocked until about 6 a.m., and traffic was backed up for miles. The southbound lanes are now open but one lane remains closed northbound with traffic adversely affected until 8 a.m. when the last of the wreckage was trucked away from the scene.
It's not yet known whether the overnight rain played a role in the crash.
