Concealed Carry Holder Fatally Shoots Armed Robber: Cops
The shooting happened Monday in the West Side's Austin neighborhood, Chicago police said.

CHICAGO, IL — A 58-year-old man with a concealed carry permit fatally shot an alleged armed robber who confronted him Monday on the West Side, according to Chicago police. The permit holder was not hurt in the incident.
The shooting happened at about 5:45 p.m. Jan. 8 in the 5500 block of West Thomas Street in the Austin neighborhood, police said. A 28-year man allegedly approached the permit holder and pulled a gun on him.
After the alleged armed robber demanded his property, the 58-year-old man drew his own gun and opened fire. The 28-year-old was hit in the back of the head by the shots.

The alleged armed robber — identified by the Chicago Tribune as Shaquille Gales — was taken to Oak Park's Western Suburban Medical Center and pronounced dead there. Gales, who was from Bellwood, was "a documented gang member," police said. Officers recovered the gun he had been carrying.
