Bearded Dragon Saved From House Fire In Warrenville

Firefighters made sure the bearded dragon was "sheltered in place" in the basement as crews extinguished the blaze.

WARRENVILLE, IL — A bearded dragon was saved from a fire that broke out in a home in Warrenville Thursday morning.

Firefighters were called to a home in the 30W200 Block of Bedford Court around 8 a.m. for a report of a fire in the bedroom of the two-story house. The home's residents had safely evacuated by the time fire crews arrive. The bearded dragon was found in the basement, which fire officials say was safe from the blaze. The pet was "sheltered in place" until the fire was fully extinguished.

It took firefighters 11 minutes to put out the blaze, per a news release, which added that some $300,000 in property was saved from being damaged.

The home was deemed habitable, with the cause of the blaze reported as an "overloaded electrical power strip."
