Planning is underway for a project that would make substantial improvements to Gary Avenue between Jewell Road and Harrison Avenue in the coming years. The proposed project would include adding a traffic light on Gary Avenue at Prairie Avenue, partial widening of the road and the addition of a multi-use path for pedestrians and bicycles.

Those who are interested in learning more about this project can attend a public meeting between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday, June 17 in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 303 W. Wesley St. The City will record this presentation and will make it available on the City’s website after it takes place. Information about the project will also be available at www.wheaton.il.us/GaryAvenue.
The project is dependent upon receiving federal grant dollars to support the work. If awarded funding, this work would take place in 2023 or later. This public meeting is the first step in the project to notify the community of the proposed project. Residents in the immediate vicinity of this project have received a notice of the public meeting, and anyone interested in learning more can attend to see a presentation and ask questions of the engineering consultant for this project, Thomas Engineering Group, or the City’s Engineering Department.
