WILMETTE, IL — The following information comes from the Wilmette and Kenilworth police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

GARAGE BURGLARY
Someone got into a garage in the 400 block of Linden Avenue and stole a Trek bicycle valued at $650 around 1 p.m. on April 14.

FRAUD
A Canterbury Court resident reported that someone used their airline miles to buy two tickets without authorization between March 25 and April 17.

SHOPLIFTING
Two unidentified shoplifters stole an unknown amount of alcohol and cosmetics from the Walgreens, 3232 Lake Ave., at some point on April 21.

WALLET THEFT
Someone stole a wallet from a person at the Jewel-Osco, 1517 Sheridan Road, on April 25 and later used a credit card from the wallet to make a nearly $512 purchase in Niles.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • Someone damaged a rear side window on a Kia parked at the Metra Station, 722 Green Bay Road, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on April 17.
  • Someone shattered a plastic chair on the tennis court of Loyola Academy, 1100 Laramie Ave., around 1 a.m. on April 21.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Poplar Drive resident reported on April 19 that someone had opened an unauthorized student loan account in their name.
  • A Lamon Avenue resident reported that someone purchased an unspecified amount of gift cards and withdrew money from their account after they told police "inadvertently" provided their personal information to someone.
  • A Pawnee Road resident reported that Niles Public Library staff notified them that someone left a check and an identification card bearing their name on a copy machine at the library.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone stole a box of business cards from an unlocked GMC SUV while it was parked in the 2500 block of Greenleaf Avenue during the overnight hours of April 21.
  • Someone stole a tote bag from a possibly unlocked Chevy while it was parked at Edens Plaza, 3232 Lake Ave., on April 26.

ARRESTS

Cesar G. Lugo-Salazar, 29, and Giancarlo Vargas-Olaya, 26, both of the 6300 block of South California Avenue, Chicago, were charged with residential burglary in connection with a break-in at a home in the 2300 block of Old Glenview Road between Feb. 11 and Feb. 14. Burglars forced their way into a rear sliding door and stole cash and electronics from inside. Officers from the Wilmette and Glencoe police departments and the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force's burglary squad reportedly found items stolen during the burglary while carrying out a court-authorized search in Chicago.

Jake Davis, 27, of the 4400 block of North Lacrosse Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 11:15 p.m. on April 18 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater after police pulled him over near Interstate 94 and Dempster Street and reported he smelled of alcohol and showed signs of intoxication. He was also ticketed for speeding.

Travis Boyden, 41, of the 4900 block of North Western Avenue, Chicago, was arrested on the morning of April 22 and charged with fleeing or eluding police and driving with a revoked license in connection with a early morning traffic stop on March 3 in the 1100 block of Wilmette Avenue. Police said they pulled him over and smelled alcohol on him, but he drove away when an officer asked him to step out of his truck.

Luis Carillo, 34, of the 2400 block of East 93rd Street, Chicago, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on April 28 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 2200 block of Lake Avenue. Police reported he smelled of alcohol, appeared intoxicated and did not have a valid license. He was also issued citations for driving without insurance and improper lane usage.

  • A Roger Avenue resident reported on April 13 that someone had used their identity to open up an unauthorized account with Verizon Wireless.
  • An Essex Road resident reported on April 15 that someone had used their identity to open up an unauthorized Home Depot account on Feb. 7.
