Country Club Burglary Caught On Camera Leads To Criminal Charges: Cops
Wilmette police dispatched to a burglary alarm at Westmoreland Country Club found one man and two children inside, authorities said.

SKOKIE, IL — Authorities said a Wilmette man broke into a golf club and attempted to steal thousands of dollars worth of items from inside.
Ethan M. Salazar-Sorbin, 19, of Wilmette, was arrested Sunday at the Westmoreland Country Club, 2601 Old Glenview Road, and charged with felony burglary, according to police and prosecutors.
Around 4:45 a.m., officers dispatched to the club by an activated burglar alarm found Salazar-Sobin and two "juvenile co-offenders" inside the clubhouse, according Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Jenna Reinhardt.

Wilmette police found Salazar-Sobin was carrying a variety of items that had been offered for sale in the pro shop, Reinhardt said at an initial court appearance Monday in Skokie.
Golf club staff later found a cooler with about $4,500 worth of alcohol inside it and a flat screen television that had been taken from inside the clubhouse, according to the prosecutor.

"These items had been left near a gate by the 8th hole," Reinhardt said.
The burglary was captured on video by security cameras inside and outside the clubhouse, according to the prosecutor.
Salazar-Sobin graduated New Trier High School in 2021 and was a football player and competitive chess player, according to defense attorney Debbie Cohen, who represented him at his bond hearing.

With no previous arrests, Salazar-Sobin was released on his own recognizance and ordered to have no contact with the country club ahead of his next court appearance Aug. 22.
