CTA Purple Line Express Temporarily Suspended

Chicago Transit Authority has temporarily suspended Purple Line Express service due to fire department activity. The Purple line is still running between Howard and Linden.

Commuters beware. The CTA has temporarily suspended its Purple Line Express service indefinitely due to fire department activity.

A fire at Roy’s Furniture, 2455 North Sheffield Ave., Chicago, is causing disruptions on the Purple, Red and Brown line.

“The building is adjacent to our tracks, that’s why it’s affecting our service,” said CTA Spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski.

  • The Purple Line between Howard and Linden is still running but not south of the Howard stop.
  • The Red line is not operating between Belmont and North and Clybourn.
  • The Brown line is not operating between Belmont and Sedgwick.

For commuters who typically take the Purple Line express to head north, they can take a Red or Brown line to North and Clybourn or Sedgwick, board a shuttle bus, then board a Red Line train to Howard. From the Howard stop, commuters can continue on the Purple line to their destination.

Hosinski says the CTA does not know when service will resume.
