NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
WILMETTE
INCIDENTS
BURGLARY
Someone broke into the Shell gas station at 399 Ridge Road around 3 a.m. on Oct. 31 and stole more than 100 packs of cigarettes and $50 worth of lottery tickets.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone got into a park district bus at the community recreation center, 3000 Glenview Road, and stole fire extinguishers between Oct. 28 and Oct. 30. The extinguishers were later sprayed in an adjacent park and left there.

BIKE THEFT
Someone stole a locked Black Label bicycle valued at $500 from the fence between the Starbucks, 3520 Lake Ave., between 4:45 a.m. and noon.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Laura A. Mills, 60, of the 2600 block of Lawndale Avenue, Evanston, was arrested around 2 a.m. on Oct. 30 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop near the intersection of Wilmette Avenue and Ridge Road. Police reported Mills appeared to be impaired an produced a breath sample above the legal limit for alcohol intoxication. She was also issued a citation for speeding.

Jarek Koperski, 45, of the 1100 block of South Ridge Road, Lake Forest, was arrested around 1 .m. on Nov. 2 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs after officers were summoned to the intersection of Lake Avenue and Sheridan Road for a report of a driver passed out on the steering wheel of a Subaru. Officers also issued him a citation for unlawful parking.
Julian I. Gonzales, 20, of the 4600 block of West Monroe Street, Chicago, was arrested on Nov. 3 at his home and charged with burglary after officers identified him as the person who broke into Hong Kong Auto, 3500 Lake Ave., during the night of Oct. 27. Authorities said it appeared his car broke down across the street and Gonzales broke in and stole various tools in an attempt to fix it. He was unable to and the car was eventually towed away with the tools.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Two unidentified people egged a home in the 200 block of Leicester Road, breaking a vintage window in the process, police were told shortly after 10 p.m. on Oct. 29. The total cost of the damage to the home was not known at the time of the report.

INCIDENTS
JEWELRY THEFT
A resident in the 500 block of Longwood Avenue reported on Oct. 18 that someone had stolen $5,800 worth of jewelry from their home. The resident confronted a person that they blamed for the theft and that person denied it.
CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A Vernon Avenue resident reported on Oct. 29 that someone had used their American Express credit card at an Apple Store to make an unauthorized payment of nearly $2,700.
PHONE HARASSMENT
A Sheridan Road resident reported on Oct. 31 that a former co-worker had called via an unknown and tried to get money from him. The resident refused and contacted police instead.
'RUSE' HOME BURGLARY
Around 5:15 p.m. on Oct. 31, a resident in the 500 block of Sheridan Road reported that two men in dark clothing arrived in a white BMW SUV and notified the resident that they were installing a fence. One of the men led the resident into the backyard and the other suspect went inside and stole an unknown amount of jewelry from the home.
THEFT
A manager at the Mercedes-Benz Autohaus, 1600 Frontage Road, reported on Oct. 31 that a customer had refused to pay the bill for a loaner car. Officers contacted the patron of the car dealership and they agreed to pay the bill.
WIRE FRAUD
A Scott Avenue resident reported on Nov. 1 that they sent a wire transfer of $3,328 to an AirBnB in Ireland that did not exist.
BANK FRAUD
A Vernon Avenue resident reported on Nov. 3 that they had been targeted for bank fraud after someone got their personal banking information and tried to transfer $50,000 out of their account.
CHECK FRAUD
- A Linden Avenue resident reported on Nov. 1 that they had written a check for about $5,000 but after checking their bank statements they learned that it had been altered before it was cashed.
- A Whitebridge Hill Road resident reported on Nov. 4 that someone had intercepted a personal check in the mail, altered it and tried to cash it. Funds were returned after the resident contacted their bank.
ARRESTS
Edward Stack, 29, of the 100 block of Green Bay Road, Winnetka, was arrested around 1:45 p.m. on Oct. 29 and charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct in the 300 block of Park Avenue.
Vasilios Trakos, 34, of the 5000 block of North Oriole Avenue, Harwood Heights, was arrested around 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 2 and charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding police, a felony, after officers encountered him riding his motorcycle around Green Bay and Dundee roads. Police reported he sped up after officers tried to pull him over and fled, breaking several traffic laws in the process. But police were able to watch him using the village's network of surveillance camera installations and tracked him to his work, where he admitted being the driver. Authorities said he denied hearing the sirens but admitted seeing police behind him trying to pull him over. Trakos was also ticketed for speeding, a stop sign violation and improper passing.
Mark Olenek, 29, of the 100 block of Green Bay Road, Glencoe, was arrested around 1:15 a.m. on Nov. 6 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and with a revoked license after a traffic stop at an unspecified location. Officers also issued him citations for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver, equipment violation and improper lane usage.

BIKE THEFTS
- An unlocked bicycle valued at $400 was stolen from the bike rack at New Trier High School, 385 Winnetka Ave., between 8:10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 24.
- Someone stole a bicycle valued at $600 from the bike racks at Carleton W. Washburne School, 515 Hibbard Road, after it was left unlocked between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 26.
IDENTITY THEFTS
- Someone used the identity of a Sunset Road resident to make an unauthorized purchase on or before Oct. 21.
- A Hill Road resident reported that someone had used their identity to submit an online credit application on or before Oct. 25.
- Someone used the identity of a Vine Street resident to apply for a Bank of America credit card on or before Oct. 20, police were notified a week later.
- A Pelham Road resident reported on Oct. 27 that someone had used their identity to make more than $4,000 worth of purchased on a Citibank credit card between Oct. 11 and Oct. 26.
- Someone used the identity of a Fairview Avenue resident to apply for a U.S. Bank loan for a loss greater than $5,000.
ARRESTS
Walter W. Krajewski-Arnold, 18, of the 200 block of Kenilworth Avenue, Kenilworth, was arrested around 4 p.m. on Oct. 28 at the Winnetka Police Department and charged with domestic battery.
Luis A. Romero Lopez, 35, of the 2000 block of Jackson Avenue, Evanston, was arrested around 11:45 p.m. on Nov. 5 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following an encounter with police in the 1100 block of Willow Road. He was also issued citations for speeding, expired registration and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol.
NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
CHECK FRAUD
An Arbor Lane resident reported on Nov. 2 that someone seemed to have stolen mail that was dropped off at the post office, altered a check and tried to cash it for about $4,000.
IDENTITY THEFT
Someone used the identity of a Churchill Street resident to open an unauthorized account and accrue a debt of $300.
WARNING FOR FLEEING POLICE
Police tried to pull over a speeding motorist in the 1700 block of Willow Road around 8 p.m. on Oct. 29, but the driver declined to stop and continued south on the Edens Expressway. Police got the license plate and gave up chasing due to the potential risk of a police pursuit in heavy highway traffic. Officers went to the home of the registered owner and located the driver, a Wilmette woman who reported she was "terrified" to stop for a marked police squad car and uniformed officer. Northfield police reported they gave the woman a warning for the offenses.
