New Trier '11 Grad Wins National Geographic Contest, $50K in Funding

New Trier 2011 graduate Charlie Engelman has won a $50,000 award from National Geographic to film Internet nature videos for a young audience.

Engleman, who explains his idea in a fun, high-energy video submitted for the contest, says kids today have attention spans too short for the last generation of science videos. He plans to travel the country, focusing on cool stuff going on in the nation’s forests.

Engleman is a University of Michigan senior, according to the school, who beat out 700 other competitors to win the prize.
