Road Closures in Wilmette, Winnetka and Kenilworth Sunday for Triathlon

The following is from the Wilmette Police Department:

The 2nd Annual North Shore Triathlon, hosted by Precision Multisport and the Wilmette Park District, will take place on Sunday, September 14th, 2014 on the east side of Wilmette, Kenilworth and Winnetka. It will start at approximately 6:45 AM and end approximately at 10:00 AM. The North Shore Triathlon consists of a 400 meter (1/4 mile) swim; a 20 kilometer (12 mile) bike ride and a 5 kilometer (3.1 mile) run. All three events will start and end in Gillson Park. In order to safely hold the North Shore Triathlon; Gillson Park will be closed to vehicle traffic at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 13th, 2014. Several streets will be closed at 6:00 AM on Sunday, September 14th, 2014. Gillson Park and closed streets will be re-opened at approximately 10:00 AM on Sunday, September 14th, 2014. A detour has been set up for Sheridan Road at Cherry St in Winnetka and at Linden Ave in Wilmette. There will be a one-way northbound local only traffic lane on Sheridan Road. This will be from the north end of Michigan Avenue in Wilmette to the intersection of Winnetka Ave & Sheridan Rd, in Winnetka. Residents along the bike course and run course have been given parking permission for legal parking spaces on streets not affected by the triathlon.

Triathlon Transition Area and Swim Closures:

• Gillson Park and Gillson Beach will be closed to all public vehicle and bike traffic from 6:00 PM on Saturday, September 13th to approximately 10:00 AM on Sunday, September 14th. This will allow for the set up of the transition area, start and finish lines and staging of equipment.
• The intersection of Washington Avenue and Michigan Avenue will also be closed for the entire event.

Bike Course Road Closures in Winnetka, Kenilworth and Wilmette:

• Sheridan Rd Local Traffic Only between Cherry St and Winnetka Ave in Winnetka and between Linden Ave and Isabella Rd in Wilmette.
• Sheridan Rd Local Northbound Traffic Only between the intersection of Sheridan Rd & the north end (1100 block) of Michigan Ave in Wilmette to the intersection of Sheridan Rd & Winnetka Ave in Winnetka.
• Sheridan Road to ALL MOTOR VEHICLE and BICYCLE traffic between Winnetka Ave, in Winnetka & Kenilworth to Linden Ave, in Wilmette, except for the above one- way northbound local only traffic lane
• Wilson St in Winnetka between Ash St and Winnetka Ave in Winnetka
• Winnetka Ave between Green Bay Rd, in Winnetka and Sheridan Rd in Kenilworth
• Washington Ave will be closed between Sheridan Rd and Michigan Ave.
• Michigan Ave between Lake Ave and Sheridan Rd in Wilmette (700-800 block)

Run Course Road Closures in Wilmette:

• Central Ave between Sheridan Rd and 4 St & between 10 St and 11 St
• 4th St between Central Ave and Greenleaf Ave
• Greenleaf Ave between 4th St and 11th St
• 11th St between Greenleaf Ave and Central Ave
• 10th St between Greenleaf Ave and Central Ave
