Burglars Break Into Businesses, Flee Police: Blotters
Negative online review leads to threatening message from contractor; drunken driver resists police: New Trier Township Police Blotters

NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS
ONLINE THREAT
A Woodlawn Avenue resident reported on the afternoon of Jan. 19 that someone had sent them a threatening direct message on social media.
HOME BURGLARY ATTEMPT
Someone tried to pry open the garage at a home in the 100 block of Maple Hill Road on Jan. 18 or Jan. 19, but they were unable to get inside.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY
Someone broke into a building in the 300 block of Park Avenue and burglarized a pair of businesses on Jan. 20. Officers dispatched around 1 a.m. to an active burglar alarm found someone had forced open the door and ransacked a psychologist's office and massage parlor, causing at least $600 in damage and stealing a wireless speaker and credit card reader device.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone threw eggs at a home in the 400 block of Washington Avenue, breaking a window and leaving multiple eggs smashed against the outside of the house at some point prior to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 22.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A Lake Street resident reported on Jan. 24 that they had been alerted of an unauthorized purchase by their credit card company. Someone tried to use their credit card to charge nearly $2,200 at an Apple store.

BIKE THEFT
Someone stole a locked bicycle worth $450 from the rack at the Washburne School, 515 Hibbard Road, between 5:30 and 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 17
HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the 1000 block of Sunset Road and stole property from inside at some point prior to 3:45 p.m. on Jan. 18. The amount of loss was not known at the time of the report.
IDENTITY THEFTS
- A Chestnut Street resident reported on Jan. 16 that someone had altered a check and cashed it on Jan. 11 for a loss of thousands of dollars.
- On Jan. 20, a Tower Road resident reported that someone had used their identity to open an account with Burlington on Dec. 17 for a loss of nearly $1,500.
- A Lamson Drive resident reported on Jan. 21 that someone had used their identity to open a Verizon Wireless account for a loss of nearly $200.
ARRESTS
Marcus J. Henderson, 33, of the 10500 block of South Vernon Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 5 a.m. on Jan. 5 near the intersection of Hibbard and Illinois roads in Wilmette and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and resisting arrest. He was also issued a citation for improper lane usage.

HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the 500 block of Melrose Avenue between 6 p.m. Jan. 19 and 6 a.m. Jan. 20 and stole two laptops and a jewelry box.
IDENTITY THEFTS
- A Melrose Avenue resident reported that someone fraudulently used their identity or credit card to make a $2,000 PayPal charge between Nov. 23 and Dec. 1, 2022.
- A Kent Road resident reported that someone used their identity to fraudulently open an Old Navy credit card and unsuccessfully attempt to open two more lines of credit with Burlington and TJ Maxx between Dec. 16 and Jan. 18.

HARASSMENT
A Maple Avenue resident reported on Jan. 25 that a former contractor had sent a threatening text message after the resident posted poor reviews online following a disagreement.
STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a Subaru SUV parked in a driveway in a home in the 200 block of 17th Street on Jan. 19 or Jan. 20. It was possibly left unlocked with a key fob inside.
ONLINE IMPERSONATION
A Locust Road resident reported on Jan. 20 that someone had set up fake social media accounts in their name without their permission.
IDENTITY THEFT
A Central Avenue resident reported on Jan. 21 that someone had used a fake identification card to make several withdrawals from their bank account at multiple branches.
COMMERCIAL BURGLARY ATTEMPT
Around 5:15 a.m. on Jan. 21, officers noticed a car drive into the lot at Wilmette Market, 3534 Lake Ave. Two people got out and tried to break a window at the business, but when they noticed the officers they got onto the Edens Expressway and fled south at high speed. Wilmette police pursued the car but soon called off the chase due to safety concerns. The business was left with a damaged window, and nothing was stolen from inside.
TRESPASSING
On Jan. 23, police were told that it appeared that someone had been inside a vacant home in the 400 block of Ridge Road without permission. Police reported there was no evidence of forced entry or any missing items.
HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the 300 block of Park Avenue on or before Jan. 24 by forcing open a back door. It was not known what, if anything, was stolen at the time of the report.
FLEEING POLICE
- Around 3 p.m. on Jan. 20, police were told that a motorist had yelled something about "Jesus and Adderall" at them in the 2700 block of Orchard Lane. Officers tried to pull over the car to speak to the driver, who eluded them by fleeing at low speed before the pursuit was called off.
- An officer tried to pull over a speeding driver in the 700 block of Ridge Road around 4:15 a.m. on Jan. 23. The driver increased speed and fled police, who did not give chase. The same car was found abandoned a short time later after crashing on Lake Avenue at 4th Street and found to have been stolen from Evanston.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 30-year-old Evanston man was arrested around 9 a.m. on Jan. 26 and charged with driving with a revoked license after officers pulled him over near the intersection of Crawford Avenue and Old Glenview Road.
