Car Stolen From Dealer Without Key; Identity Thief Nabbed: Blotters
Porch pirate gets into home with stolen garage door opener; fake boss scams resident out of $22,000: New Trier Township Police Blotters

NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
GLENCOE
INCIDENTS
SHOPLIFTING
Someone stole a $90 bottle of tequila from Binny's Beverage Depot, 85 Green Bay Road, at an unspecified time prior to 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 4.
TELEPHONE HARASSMENT
A Mortimer Road resident reported around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 that a family member had placed a threatening phone call to them.

CHECK FRAUD
Staff at North Shore Congregation Israel, 1185 Sheridan Road, reported on Jan. 13 that an employee discovered a check that had been sent to them had been intercepted, signed and cashed into an unidentified account.
STOLEN CAR
Staff at Carmax, 2000 Frontage Road, reported at 6 p.m. on Jan. 16 that someone had stolen a 2019 Dodge Charger that was last seen parked in the lot around 12:45 p.m. that day. Both key fobs remained in the dealership's possession.

HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the 500 block of Washington Avenue at some point prior to 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 17. Officers found pry marks on two rear doors and evidence that another had been forced open. No information about how much property was stolen was available at the time of the report.
IDENTITY THEFTS
- A customer of North Shore Community Bank, 362 Park Ave., reported on Jan. 5 that someone had used their identity to try to access a line of credit. Bank staff stopped the attempt and contacted the resident.
- A South Avenue resident reported on the morning of Jan. 10 that a representative of Barclay's Bank had called about suspicious charges on various credit cards, which were blocked.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Floy Schrage, 76, of the 1500 block of Sheridan Road, Highland Park, was arrested around 9:45 p.m. on Jan. 6 and charged with driving under the influence of an unspecified substance following a traffic stop a Dundee and Green Bay roads. She was also issued a citation for speeding.
Darrius Summeries, 32, of the 200 block of West 31st Street, Chicago, was arrested on Jan. 10 and charged with aggravated identity theft, identity theft, forgery and resisting police following an joint investigation that involved a victim from Glencoe.
WINNETKA
INCIDENTS
JEWELRY THEFT
A resident in the 1300 block of Asbury Avenue reported on Jan. 11 someone stole jewelry from their home between Oct. 5 and Nov. 14 for a loss of thousands of dollars.
CHECK FRAUD
An Indian Hill Road resident reported on Jan. 14 that someone had intercepted a check and altered it for a loss of thousands of dollars.
IDENTITY THEFTS
- A Private Road resident reported that someone used their identity to make thousands of dollars of unauthorized transactions using their Chase and First Republic bank accounts between Dec. 29 and Jan. 4.
- An Elder Lane resident reported on Jan. 7 that someone had used their identity to apply for a Chase credit card on Dec. 20.
- A Warwick Road resident reported on Jan. 10 that someone had used their identity to open a T-Mobile account in February 2022 and racked up thousands of dollars in charges.
- A Tower Road resident reported on Jan. 13 that someone had used their identity to apply for a car loan on Dec. 28.
VANDALISM
- Someone spray-painted a concrete wall near the intersection of Hill Road and Wilson Street between 6 p.m. Jan. 11 and 8:45 a.m. on Jan. 13, which was expected to cost $200 to clean up.
- Someone spray-painted a concrete wall in the 200 block of Green Bay Road around 12:15 a.m. on Jan. 13. It was expected to cost $400 to clean up.
- At some point between July 13, 2022, and Jan. 15, someone spray-painted a concrete wall in the 800 block of Green Bay Road, causing $375 in clean-up costs.

INCIDENTS
THEFT
An employee of Heritage Trail Mercantile, 190-B Northfield Road, reported on Jan. 4 that someone had stolen about $1,000 worth of jewelry from a display stand at between 2:15 and 3:10 p.m. on Jan. 1.
IDENTITY THEFT
A Graemere Street resident reported on Jan. 7 that someone had recently used their identity to open an unauthorized online account of some kind.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT
A Canterbury Lane resident reported that a service repair employee of an unspecified company showed up at their home without a scheduled appointment and was acting unusually. Officers spoke to the employee, who apologized and acknowledged that they were not welcome back.
HOME BURGLARY ATTEMPT
Police were called to a burglar alarm in the first block of Bristol Road around 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 12. Officers found someone had tried to break in by prying open a rear window.
SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Mariano's, 1822 Willow Road, reported around 4 p.m. on Jan. 13 that someone had stolen multiple bottles of liquor worth about $100 during the prior 90 minutes before leaving in a car.
CHECK FRAUD
A Bristol Road resident reported on Jan. 14 that someone had intercepted a check, altered it and fraudulently cashed it for a loss of more than $13,000.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Jason M. Trippel, 45, of the 2000 block of Green Bay Road, Evanston, was arrested around 10 a.m. on Jan. 13 on an arrest warrant issued by Chicago police in connection with an allegation that he violated an active order of protection in Chicago.
A 25-year-old Chicago man was issued citations for disobeying a stop sign and illegal possession of cannabis following a traffic stop in the 1700 block of Willow Road.

KENILWORTH
INCIDENTS
PACKAGE THEFT/HOME BURGLARY ATTEMPT
Around 7 p.m. on Jan. 5, an unidentified thief stole packages from the front porch and pulled on the door handle of a home in the 500 block of Essex Road. The same person also approached other houses on the block before getting into a dark-colored Jeep Cherokee and leaving.
HOME BURGLARY/AGGRAVATED FLEEING, ELUDING
The same package thief took a garage door opener from inside an unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 300 block of Essex Road and used it to get into the garage. The burglar also got into a car parked in the garage but did not steal anything. After getting into the interior of the house, the burglar stole a purse and dumped its contents on the road a short distance away. Police later found a Jeep driving in the area with no headlights and checked its license plate to discovery that it had been reported stolen from Evanston. Officers tried to pull it over but the driver sped away into oncoming traffic before police called off the pursuit.

FAKE JEWELRY
Staff at Wilmette Loan and Jewelry, 1409 Lake Ave., reported that they spent $1,700 to buy a fake gold neckless on Dec. 29.
EMAIL SCAM
A Central Avenue resident reported on Dec. 30 that they were scammed out of $22,000 by someone who sent an email claiming to be their boss. The scammer asked the resident to provide the numbers to the fake boss for holiday gifts.
PACKAGE THEFT
Someone stole a package from the front porch of a home in the 200 block of Wood Court around 7:45 a.m. on Jan. 2. The package contained about $190 worth of curtains.
TICKET SCAM
A Park Avenue resident reported on Jan. 3 that they agreed to sell tickets to the national championship of college football and, before receiving payment, mailed the tickets out-of-state to someone who stopped responding.
VANDALISM
Graffiti was found on the side of a fence in the 2600 block of Old Glenview Road on Jan. 3.
CAR BURGLARIES
Someone burglarized an unlocked Honda minivan and Ford SUV in the 1700 block of Walnut Avenue, rummaging through their interior on or before Jan. 12. Nothing was reported stolen from inside either vehicle.
IDENTITY THEFTS
- A Wilshire Drive resident reported on Dec. 30 that someone had used their identity in an attempt to file for unemployment insurance benefits.
- A Washington Avenue resident reported on Jan. 5 that someone had used their identity to open two lines of credit.
FRAUD
- A Ridge Road resident reported on Dec. 29 that someone had gained access to their credit card and racked up about $1,000 in charges.
- A Hibbard Road resident reported on Jan. 2 that someone had made $15,000 in charges to their credit card, even though the physical card never left their possession.
SHOPLIFTING
- Staff at Walgreens reported that, while reviewing store video surveillance, they discovered that someone had stolen about $277 worth of merchandise around 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 31.
- Walgrens staff reported around 6 p.m. on Jan. 10 that they discovered someone had stolen a cell phone charger.
- Staff at Jewel-Osco, 411 Green Bay Road, reported that someone stole about $175 worth of alcohol around 3:45 p.m. on Jan. 8 and fled on foot headed south on Green bay Road.
THEFTS
- A resident in the 2700 block of Wilmette Avenue reported on Dec. 31 that they returned home from vacation to find that about $9,400 worth of cash and jewelry was missing.
- Someone stole a rear back-up camera from a car parked in the 400 block of Beverly Drive during the night of Jan. 3 or morning of Jan. 4.
HOME BURGLARIES
- Someone broke into a home in the 200 block of Heather Lane between Dec. 28 and Jan. 1 while the residents were out of town and stole jewelry and cash from inside.
- Someone broke into a home in the 100 block of Milbrook Lane between Dec. 30 and Jan. 2, stealing credit cards while the residents were away.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Robert Booden, 21, of the 700 block of 12th Street, Wilmette, was arrested shortly before midnight on Jan. 5 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a one-car traffic crash in the 1200 block of Middlebury Lane. Booden, who provided a breath sample indicating he had two-and-a-half times the legal limit for alcohol intoxication, drove a GMC pickup truck off the road and into the back yard of a home. Officers also issued him citations for improper lane usage, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and driving too fast for conditions.
Michael Brown, 41, of the 1900 block of Potomac Court, Wheeling, was arrested around 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 11 and charged with retail theft after officers were dispatched to the Walgreens, 3232 Lake Ave., for a report that a shoplifter had just left in a silver Acura. Police pulled over a car matching the description at Skokie Boulevard and Wilmette Avenue, found proceeds from the theft and took Brown into custody.
A 17-year-old was petitioned delinquent on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and criminal trespassing to vehicle after being taken into custody on Jan. 9 while riding in a Hyundai SUV stolen from the 1400 block of Maple Avenue earlier that day after its key was left inside. Police said the same teen was also responsible for stealing an Audi sedan from the 900 block of Ashland Avenue on Jan. 6. That car's keys were also left inside. Police later found the car abandoned in the 400 block of North Franklin Street in Chicago.
David Reid, 69, of the 800 block of Garfield Place, Evanston, was arrested around 3:45 a.m. on Jan. 12 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police pulled him over near the intersection of Ridge and Central avenues in Evanston and determined he was intoxicated. Officers also issued him citations for improper lane usage and no insurance.
