GLENCOE, IL — Three car thieves were injured in a crash on the Edens Expressway early Wednesday, minutes after they stole two vehicles in Glencoe, police said.

Police said that a Glencoe resident called police around 4 a.m. Wednesday, saying that someone was in the resident’s vehicle and tried to start the engine. When the resident yelled out at the person, they fled.

The resident told police they had noticed at least 10 more people in the area along with three vehicles, two of which had been stolen from the neighborhood, police said. The group then got into the vehicles and sped off, and Glencoe police officers who were in the area at the time were not able to catch up before the vehicles got on the expressway, police said in a news release.
