Cook County Seeks to be Declared a Federal Disaster Area

The Village of Winnetka is asking residents to take a poll assessing the damages suffered after last weeks flooding, an email sent out to residents says.

Cook County is seeking to be declared a federal disaster area after the widespread flooding experienced last week on April 18, an email sent out to Winnetka residents by the Village on Tuesday said. Being declared a federal disaster area would make funding available to property owners who have experienced flood-related losses. In order to do this, Cook County is seeking data from citizens on losses suffered. This information will be used as part of the County's damage assessment to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

In participation with the Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, the Village of Winnetka is asking residents to fill out a short survey on damages suffered. The survey, which must be completed by Friday April 26 by 3 p.m.

The survey does not determine whether an individual will receive any federal assistance, and those who do not take part in the survey will not be exluded from federal assistance offered at a later date.
