Duo Charged With Vehicular Trespassing, Drug Possession: Blotters
Nebraska woman sheds pieces of car in hit-and-run crashes; Tollway notifications alert resident to stolen plate: New Trier Township Blotters

NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
GLENCOE
INCIDENTS
FORGERY
A Crescent Drive resident reported on Oct. 19 that someone had cashed three fraudulent checks against their bank account for a loss of $29,400.
THEFT
A resident in the 400 block of Drexel Avenue reported on Oct. 19 that someone had stolen a container with more than $12,000 of jewelry. The resident suspected that the container was taken during a move that occurred between Sept. 1 and Sept. 16, during which various moving companies were inside their home.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Sheridan Road resident reported on Oct. 20 that someone had used their identity in an attempt to open an unauthorized bank account.
FRAUD
A resident in the 700 block of Greenwood Avenue reported on Oct. 20 that they had been scammed out of more than $10,500 information by a caller who claimed to work for USAA banking and talked them into providing information needed to gain access to banking accounts.

SHOPLIFTING
Police were called to the Binny's Beverage Depot, 85 Green Bay Road, around 6:30 p.m. for a report that two women in their 20s or 30s had stolen about $713 worth of merchandise before leaving in a blue Jeep Grand Cherokee.

INCIDENTS
IDENTITY THEFT
An Ash Street resident reported that someone had used their identity to make about $740 in unauthorized purchases using their Citibank credit card between Oct. 14 and Oct. 15.
ARRESTS
Hillary A. O'Conner, 36, of the 3700 block of Salem Walk, Northbrook, was arrested around 5:45 p.m. on Oct. 20 on an active warrant and turned over to the custody of Mount Prospect police after officers were called to a report of a dispute at the post office at 512 Chestnut St.
Alvin Hall, 62, of the 1000 block of Lawndale Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 22 and charged with criminal trespassing to a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a valid license following an encounter with police near the intersection of Sheridan Road and Ravine Drive. Balint Kiss, 32, of the 1400 block of Caldwell Lane, Hoffman Estates, was arrested in the same incident and charged with criminal trespassing to a motor vehicle and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
SUSPICIOUS PERSON
On Oct. 19, police were told of an incident that occurred 11 days earlier in the 200 block of Sunset Drive, when a man in a jumpsuit and neon vest showed up, purportedly to change a home's landline phone service. The man claimed to have a work order and asked the residents for personal information, they told him they had not requested the service and he left.
HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 200 block of Wagner Road reported that someone had burglarized their home between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 22. Officers learned that someone had pried open a door to get inside. It was not known what was stolen at the time of the report.
LICENSE PLATE THEFT
At some point prior to Oct. 24, someone illegally used the license plates of a Northfield resident's former car after it was sold. The resident learned of the theft after receiving notifications of tollway violations.
COIN SCAM
Staff at Mariano's, 1822 Willow Road, reported on Oct. 25 that someone had presented a Coinstar receipt that appeared to show a payment about a week earlier. The receipt passed initial checks of its validity, and the customer was paid out for more than $400, but Mariano's later learned the transaction was fraudulent.
CHECK FRAUD
- Someone intercepted mail dropped off at a post office around Oct. 13, altered checks and tried to cash them for more than $9,000 but the transaction was declined. Police were told a week later.
- Someone attempted to cash an altered check for more than $3,000 after stealing mail that was dropped off at the post office a couple days before Oct. 25, police were told.
- Someone intercepted mail dropped off at a post office a few days before Oct. 25, altering the check and trying to cash it for more than $9,000.
ARRESTS
Emma T. Osuna, 22, of the 1100 block of Asbury Avenue, Winnetka, was arrested around 4:20 a.m. on Oct. 1 and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance as a result of an early morning investigative stop at New Trier High School's west campus on June 23. The crime lab subsequently determined she had a small amount of cocaine in her possession.
Bryanna Blades, 22, of the 12000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Houston, Texas, was arrested on Oct. 21 and charged with theft of more than $500 in connection with an investigation into an unspecified theft in August.

INCIDENTS
FAKE WATCHES
On Oct. 21, a representative of Fuenfer Jewelers, 124 Skokie Blvd., reported that they had purchased two fake Rolex watches from two men in their 20s in separate transactions. The store spent $6,800 on the first one and $6,000 on the second one before conducting a more detailed inspection and learning they were not authentic.
CAR BURGLARY
Someone burglarized an unlocked Subaru in the 1000 block of Seminole Road on the night of Oct. 23, stealing a cell phone and $20 in cash. A surveillance camera captured an image of a white SUV parked in a driveway around 10:30 p.m. that night.
MISSING JEWELRY FOUND
A resident who previously reported that jewelry had been stolen during a real estate showing reported on the afternoon of Oct. 24 that the missing jewelry had been found.
SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Jewel-Osco, 1517 Sheridan Road, reported that a 5 foot, 8 inch man in his late 20s with a thin build stole three bottles of tequila and two bottles of tequila around 6:45 p.m. on Oct. 24.
COMMERICAL BURGLARY
A representative of the Shell gas station, 399 Ridge Road, reported around 6 a.m. on Oct. 26 that someone had broken into the building and stole cigarettes, lottery tickets and cash from inside.
HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the 3000 block of Washington Avenue between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Oct. 26. Several rooms were ransacked but nothing was reported missing from inside.
TECH SUPPORT SCAM
An Elmwood Avenue resident reported on Oct. 26 that they called a telephone number provided in an email that appeared to come from the Best Buy "geek squad" and mentioned tech support services the resident had not purchased. Once on the phone, the caller asked the resident for bank account information and remotely took control of his computer and webcam before the resident turned off the computer. There was no fraudulent activity on the bank account at the time of the report.
CREDIT CARD SCAM
A Greenwood Avenue resident reported on Oct. 27 that someone had called them claiming to be a credit card company representative. The caller claimed that the resident had a fraudulent charge on her account. The resident provided the caller with personal information before realizing it was a scam and closing the account.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
John C. Friel, 60, of the 100 block of Waukegan Road, Glenview, was arrested around 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 21 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the 2700 block of Gross Point Road. He was also ticketed for driving below the minimum speed.
Ashlyn L. Anson, 26, of the 4900 block of South 49th Street in Omaha, Nebraska, was arrested on the evening of Oct. 27 following multiple traffic crashes. Police reported that she was first involved in a hit-and-run crash in Northbrook before exiting the Edens Expressway at Skokie Boulevard. Officers who were later called to New Trier High School's Northfield campus for a report of the same car driving erratically on school property found the car's bumper but not the car itself. Then, about 20 minutes after the initial crash, an officer was called to a report of a crash near the intersection of Lake Avenue and Ridge Road, where Anson had run a red light and crashed into another car. Anson was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, disobeying a red light and no proof of insurance.
