Many churches, community groups, city leaders, legislators and nonprofits are giving away turkeys
or holiday meals to help families celebrate Thanksgiving. In some cases, recipients are urged to register ahead of time to ensure they receive a turkey.
Among the turkey giveaways taking place around the state are:
- Chicago Emerging Stars will give away 300+ frozen Butterball turkeys on Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 12p.m. at the Chicago Police 6th District Parking Lot, 7808 S Halsted St, Chicago.
- The Cook County Community Turkey Giveaway is giving 12lb frozen turkeys as well as Thanksgiving sides at their many events throughout the county. Reservations are required to attend any event.
- House of Valor in Joliet is hosting a community outreach meal on Nov. 22 to anyone in need from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2225 W. Jefferson St.
- The Midwest Veterans Closet is hosting a Turkey Giveaway on Nov. 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. while supplies last at 1720 North Green Bay Road in North Chicago.
