Glencoe Woman Dies After Crashing Into Nail Salon, Injuring Occupant

A 78-year-old woman drove a Mercedes-Benz convertible into a window of a Green Bay Road business Saturday morning.

GLENCOE, IL — Authorities said a Glencoe woman died after she drove into a commercial building on Green Bay Road Saturday morning.

Nena Addis, 78, was behind the wheel of a black Mercedes-Benz SL driving north on Green Bay Road shortly before 11 a.m., according to the Glencoe Public Safety Department and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

After passing Park Avenue, Addis' car swerved left and drove over over two southbound lanes and into the Bien Assorti nail salon at 710 Green Bay Road, according to Andrew Perley, deputy chief of the Glencoe Public Safety Department.

Addis was taken to Evanston Hospital, where she was pronounced dead Saturday evening, according to medical examiner's office, which was due to conduct an autopsy Monday.

Someone who was inside the nail salon was injured after Addis drove into the building. That person was taken to Evanston Hospital with minor injuries, police said.
