High Winds, Downed Power Lines Halt Trains On Metra UP-N Line
With wind gusts in excess of 60 mph, trains were halted for about an hour Wednesday morning. Downed wires led to a pause in the afternoon.

WINNETKA, IL — Metra trains on the Union Pacific North Line were halted as a safety precaution for about an hour Wednesday morning as wind gusts reached more than 60 mph.
Trains began moving again around 11:15 a.m., although several trains were cancelled ahead of the evening commute.
"We're planning to run normal service," Metra spokesperson Meg Riley said. "It's all going to depend on the weather how well we're able to navigate."

Then, around 1 p.m., UP-N trains in both directions was halted again — this time due to downed wires at at Ford Sheridan.
Riley said high winds from Tuesday's severe thunderstorms also led to multiple temporarily halts on the UP-N line.

There were also two trees downed on the tracks Tuesday night, Riley said. One fell near Kenosha. Another downed tree near Lake Bluff was hit by a freight train, which led to more stoppages.
