'Home Alone' House's Original Owner Writes Book About Holiday Classic
In "Home But Alone No More," the Winnetka landmark's original owner details what it was like to live in the setting of a Christmas classic.

WINNETKA, IL — The original owner of one of Winnetka's most iconic landmarks, the famous house from holiday classic "Home Alone," is sharing his behind-the-scenes stories about the house in a new memoir.
In "Home But Alone No More," John Abendshien details how the filmmakers chose the location, what filming was like and how it felt to have a Hollywood blockbuster take over his life. Though filming only lasted five months, the impact was long-lasting; turning the family home into a permanent tourist attraction.

The house has seen its fair share of onlookers, including many movie lovers who have made it a mission to see the house that became famous when the movie starring Macauley Culkin hit the big screen in 1990.
Among the stories in the book, Abendshein details what it was like to live in the home while film crews moved through the halls creating a Christmas classic.

"We had a large master bedroom suite that we converted into an apartment," he said. "As long as we kept out of the camera eye...we were free to roam and watch scenes as they were being filmed."
