WINNETKA, IL — The first snowstorm of the year hit Winnetka overnight, bringing with it inches of snow and school delays.
As of 8 a.m. Monday, Winnetka saw approximately 3.5 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service, though more fell throughout the morning.
As a result of the snow, some schools in the region were delayed Monday, according to the Emergency Closing Center.

The Chicagoland witnessed a variety of weather conditions that came along with the gusty lake effect snow event, including lightning and thunder. The storm shifted southeastward later in the morning into Indiana.

During the storm, a crash in Gurnee killed one Evanston woman and injured three others, including a woman and two young children. The crash happened at approximately 9 p.m. Sunday on Grand Avenue over Interstate 94, when a vehicle hit a patch of ice when switching lanes and lost control.

The 2004 Chevrolet Suburban crossed over the median into eastbound lanes of traffic before crashing head on into a 2007 Ford Focus. The impact send the Ford of the road into a ditch, killing the 29-year-old Evanston woman who was driving.
Passengers in the Chevrolet included a 29-year-old Waukegan woman and her 5-year-old son and 8-month-old daughter.
According to Accuweather, temperatures in Winnetka Monday are expected to stay chilly, with a high of 35 and a low of 27. Forecasters predict a chance of flurries Tuesday morning for a short time, with temperatures peaking at 41 degrees tomorrow.
The rest of the week is expected to be snow free, with temperatures in the low 50s.
