NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

BURGLARY
An employee at Glencoe Union Church, 263 Park Ave., reported on the morning of Nov. 14 that someone had broken an exterior window and stolen a viola and two guitars worth a combined $1,300 sometime after 8:30 p.m. on the prior night. The repair cost of the window was estimated at $100.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A Stonegate Terrace resident reported on Nov. 16 that someone had racked up more than $275 in fraudulent charges using a credit card that was in their possession.

EGGING
A resident in the 100 block of Dell Place reported on Nov. 19 that someone had thrown an egg at their home sometime after 9 p.m. the prior night, causing $200 in damage.

CHECK FRAUD
A Mayfair Lane resident reported on Nov. 21 that someone had cashed several fraudulent checks against their bank account between Oct. 17 and Oct. 24 for a loss of more than $22,000.

ARRESTS

A 23-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 1:45 a.m. on Nov. 7 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater after an officer on patrol spotted him behind the wheel of a Honda SUV stopped on the median of Dundee Road at Pebblewood Lane. He was also issued a citation for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.

A 51-year-old Glencoe man was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 11 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in the 300 block of Lake Street after officers were called to investigate another, unrelated incident.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone damaged a window in the 1200 block of Sunset Road between 2:22 a.m. Nov. 15 and 9 p.m. Nov. 17 for a loss of $200.

CHECK FRAUD

  • A Green Bay Road resident reported on Nov. 2 that someone fraudulently endorsed a check and cashed it into an unauthorized account for an unspecified loss in excess of several thousand dollars.
  • A Tower Road resident reported that someone intercepted and altered checks in the mail, cashing them between Nov. 13 and Nov. 17 for an unspecified loss in excess of several thousand dollars.

BIKE THEFTS

  • Someone stole an unlocked Tr*k bicycle and a helmet from a bike rack outside The Skokie School, 520 Glendale Ave., between 4:30 p.m. Nov. 10 and 5 p.m. on Nov. 12 for a loss of $460.
  • Someone stole a Giant bicycle and a lock from the rack at Carleton Washburne School, 515 Hibbard Road, between 8:15 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 for a loss of $820.

ARRESTS

An 18-year-old Skokie man was arrested around 11:15 p.m. on Nov. 8 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license following a traffic crash in the 500 block of Green Bay Road. He was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.


NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

CHECK FRAUD
A Ridge Terrace resident reported on the morning of Nov. 7 that someone had withdrawn about $7,500 from their business bank accounts using forged checks during the prior few months.

SHOPLIFTING
A patron of Walgreens, 1825 Willow Road, reported around 1 p.m. on Nov. 8 that someone had just picked up their prescription. Store management told police that a pharmacist had given the medication to an unidentified woman who gave the patron's name and address, resulting in a loss of the $10 copay.

DECEPTIVE PURCHASE
An employee of the Josselyn Center, 405 Central Ave., reported on Nov. 8 that the company had received a package that had been purchased in its name with a new and unauthorized account.

SOLICITOR COMPLAINT
Officers met an unregistered solicitor in the 800 block of North Happ Road around 4 p.m. on Nov. 9 and explained how he can register for a permit with the village.

ROAD RAGE
An Arlington Heights resident reported that an unidentified man had called her a rude word and threatened to run her over during a road rage incident in the parking lot of the Northfield Post Office, 1787 Orchard Lane.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone broke into a car parked at The Happ Inn, 305 S. Happ Road, between 8:15 and 9:35 p.m. on Nov. 10. The thieves stole a bag and about $8,100 worth of electronics from inside the car, which was found with a damaged door handle.

EGGING
A Wheeling resident reported on Nov. 13 that someone had thrown an egg at their car as they drove near Willow Road and the Edens Expressway between 9:30 and 10 p.m. on Nov. 11.

BATTERY
A Chicago resident reported that someone had just pushed him off of some porch steps in the 200 block of South Happ Avenue during an argument about some "questionable work" being done in the area. The man did not wish to press charges.

ARRESTS

Keith A. Green, 67, of the first block of Robin Hood Lane, Northfield, was arrested around 11:50 a.m. on Nov. 14 and charged with aggravated assault, a felony, and misdemeanor resisting a peace officer while at Swedish Covenant Hospital, 5145 N. California Ave., Chicago. Police reported that Green confronted Northfield Fire Department paramedics with a large hunting knife while they treated another resident of his home. Police showed up and confronted Green, who locked himself in a bedroom with the knife. One officer was injured while taking him into custody, and due to Green's statements he was taken to the hospital for evaluation before being released and charged.

KENILWORTH

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT

A Leicester Road resident reported that, at some point between June and November, someone used their identity to apply for a credit account with Bank of America and make another fraudulent credit attempt through Chase. There was no monetary loss at the time of the report.


WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY
Someone cut the locks from 12 storage units at an unspecified business in the 3600 block of Lake Avenue between 11:35 p.m. on Nov. 1 and 12:34 a.m. on Nov. 2. Nothing was reported stolen.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident of the 1000 block of Mohawk Road called 911 around 4:15 a.m. on Nov. 3 to report a burglar in their house. The intruder, who was about 5 feet, 10 inches with a thin build and dressed all in black with a hooded sweatshirt, had set off a burglar alarm after fleeing through a dining room door. Nothing was reported stolen from inside, and officers dispatched to the scene were unable to find any suspects.

SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Walgreens, 3232 Lake Ave., reported that a pair of shoplifters stole about 37 bottles of cologne valued at nearly $2,800 around 4:15 p.m. on Nov. 3. No descriptions were provided.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone scratched a zig-zag pattern into a Chevrolet work van while it was parked in the 1100 block of Central Avenue on or before Nov. 9.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole an unlocked Toyota Camry from the 1700 block of Elmwood Avenue around 10 a..m. on Nov. 16.

THEFT
Someone at Walgreens, 3232 Lake Ave., reported around 1 p.m. on Nov. 16 that their wallet was missing and someone had tried to use their credit card.

FRAUD

  • A Parkview Court resident reported that someone used their identity to transfer money out of their bank account several times between Oct. 5 and Oct. 17.
  • A Sheridan Road resident reported on Nov. 2 that someone had cashed an unauthorized $4,100 check against their account.
  • A Central Avenue resident reported on Nov. 2 that someone had written multiple unauthorized checks from their accounts for an $18,000 loss.
  • A Pontiac Road resident reported on Nov. 3 that they had received a notice from PayPal warning of suspicious activity on their account in August and, at some point, they noticed three authorized charges totaling nearly $300.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Greenwood Avenue resident reported on Nov. 12 that someone had used their identity to takeout student loans.
  • A Romona Road resident reported on Nov. 13 that someone had used their identity to create a new online bank account and transfer money.
  • A Greenwood Avenue resident reported on Nov. 15 that someone had used their identity to open up a utility account in Clute, Texas, and accrue an unpaid balance in excess of $1,000.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Around 7 p.m. on Oct. 28, someone stole four pairs of designer sunglasses worth about $20 from inside an unlocked Mercedes in the 700 block of Sheridan Road.
  • Someone got into an unlocked Audi in the 500 block of Maple Avenue and stole cash and sunglasses worth a combined $150 at some point on or before Nov. 14.

ARRESTS

Joseph R. Schaffer, 21, was arrested in Chicago on Oct. 28 in connection with an allegation of car burglary. At the time, he was also wanted by Wilmette police on a warrant alleging he broke into a pair of buildings on 4th Street on April 23 by smashing their front windows with a brick. He was processed by Wilmette authorities on Nov. 2 for two counts of burglary, and Cook County prosecutors declined to seek his pretrial detention.

Benjamin J. Meade, 33, of the 100 block of Woodbine Avenue, Wilmette, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 30 and charged with possession of a controlled substance, a felony, after police reported finding him asleep behind the wheel of a car in his block of residence with cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

A 61-year-old Riverwoods man was arrested around 1 a.m. on Nov. 8 and charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol after police found him behind the wheel of an idling Chevy Suburban in a commercial parking lot in the 1000 block of Skokie Boulevard and determined he was drunk.

Alena Harger, 23, and Jarrell Shaw, 32, both of Chicago, were arrested by the Illinois State Police on Nov. 10 and charged with criminal trespass to a motor vehicle after police found them inside a 2013 Kia that had been stolen from the 600 block of Hunter Road that same day. Harder, the driver, also had a no-bond warrant issued by Will County authorities.

Jacob N. Spiro, 23, of the 4600 block of Davis Street, Skokie, was charged with two additional counts of disorderly conduct on Nov. 14 in connection with bomb threats transmitted to the Wilmette Public Library on Aug. 17 and Aug. 20. Spiro had previously been charged by authorities in Skokie and Niles and was subsequently charged in Evanston.

A 42-year-old Chicago man was arrested on Nov. 15 in the 400 block of Isabella Street after police were called to a report of a man drinking, dancing and yelling near a yellow convertible. Officers learned the man was lost, had been having car trouble and had an active arrest warrant issued by Cook County authorities.

Kentrell Jones, 28, of the 8100 block of South Evans Street, Chicago, was arrested around 9 p.m. on Nov. 15 in Skokie and charged with burglary to vehicle, criminal trespass to vehicle and two counts of theft after Wilmette police identified him as the person responsible for multiple car burglaries. His bond was revoked because he had a pending case stemming from an allegation he was illegally in possession of a car title.

A 55-year-old Glenview woman was arrested around 7 a.m. on Nov. 17 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs after police said she was involved in a hit-and-run crash in the 1900 block of Wilmette Avenue in a Maserati Levante. Officers found the car in the 300 block of Ridge Road in Kenilworth and took the driver into custody. She was also cited for improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed.
