Lost License Plate Leads To DUI Arrest

A Lincolnwood man was charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident after his front license plate fell off when he hit another car.

The following reports were provided by the Northfield Police Department. Arrests and charges are accusations, and do not indicate guilt.

DUI

On April 29, officers charged Christopher M. Bernal, 19, of Lincolnwood with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to give information, failure to notify of an accident, possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and DUI of drugs, according to police.

That day, police received multiple 911 calls reporting a hit and run with an injury near Willow Road and Fox Meadow Fields, according to police. According to police reports, Bernal hit a driver from behind, then drove off. Officers were able to track him down because his front license plate fell off at the scene, police say.

On April 26, officers arrested Rolando Villa, 26, of Chicago, after he was kicked out of a gas station for causing a disturbance, according to police. Villa was asked to leave a Shell gas station on the 400 block of Sunset Ridge Road after he was caught pouring out several coffees, according to the police report. 

Officers tracked down Villa after he left the gas station in a green Nissan Altima, and he was charged with driving on a suspended license, according to police. Gas station employees declined to sign a formal complaint against him, but asked that he not return to the store, according to police.

National Take-Back Initiative

On April 27, 21 people brought medicine to the Northfield Police Department for disposal, as part of the National Take-Back Initiative that day, according to police reports. One person brought two hand guns for disposal that day, as well, according to police records.
